USASA Mourns the Loss of Eddie Moraes

Eddie Moraes passed away Wednesday, May 14th at his home in Newark, NJ. 

Eddie died of complications from Alzheimer disease, which he had for many years. He was in his late 60’s.

Mr. Moraes was heavily involved with the USASA National Cups at the Regional and National levels for several years. He was also Region I Commissioner for the USASA Membership Committee, position he held for five years.

During his soccer career he was involved with the New Jersey Soccer Association as a player, coach and referee. He was a goalkeeper for Benfica Soccer Club of Newark, NJ; this club is connected with the Benfica SC in Portugal, Eddie’s native Country.

Eddie is a member of the New Jersey Hall of Fame - Class of 1998.

Moraes is survived by his wife, Val, and three children, Eddie Jr., Tony and Michele, and several grandchildren.
